My name's Lex Maru.
The purpose of this website is to highlight some of my favorite client and personal projects.
I'm a Colombian-American experimental website designer and developer based in the USA.
I designed my first website back in 2008 at the New York Public Library by Bryant Park because I didn't have a home computer at the time.
16 years later, I've learned a few things.
I fuse traditional web design (HTML, CSS, JS) with experimental 3D and e-commerce. I develop alot of what I call "hybrid" websites, as I build custom front-end designs while using popular back-ends like Shopify.

In 2019, I experienced my first big "website success" by developing an online store that retailed imported JDM car engines from Japan. We generated over 4 million dollars in a single year, when revenue in the prior year barely cracked $150K. This project involved custom website design, paid digital advertising, email marketing, and in-person events.
In 2021, I founded
Dreamworld Lab and pioneered "dreamworlds", which are interactive 3D worlds you can easily explore in first-person using any web-connected device including mobile, PC, tablet, and mixed reality headsets like the Apple Vision Pro. Dreamworlds also integrate with Shopify & other commerce platforms for a shopping and brand experience like no other.
In 2023, I founded
Outfit Builder Lab to create drag-and-drop interactive builders on websites where you could pick and piece together your favorite looks. Outfit builders also easily integrate with all online store platforms. These builders come in styles including standard grids, randomizer modes, on-body, and we've recently introduced our new 2.0 style with special controls.

Before moving to Texas in 2024, I spent two years in Los Angeles and was born and raised in the New York City area my entire life.
Besides developing websites and working on experimental creative projects, some of my hobbies including playing fetch with my Doberman, printing t-shirt samples at my home studio, playing chess with my best friend Chase, lifting free weights, collecting antiques, discussing 9/11, and wrenching on old Benz's & GSXR sportbikes.
If you'd like to discuss building a project with me or just want to chat about an idea, feel free to contact me.
